How ELO works

Racket Heroes uses the ELO rating system โ€” the same method used in chess and many competitive sports.

๐Ÿ You start at 1000

Every player starts with an ELO of 1000 for each sport they play. As you log competitive matches and they get confirmed, your rating goes up or down.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Beating a stronger player gives more points

If you beat someone with a much higher ELO, you gain a lot of points โ€” and they lose a lot. If you beat someone weaker, you gain fewer points. The system rewards beating strong opponents.

Example:
You (1000) beat Player B (1200) โ†’ you gain ~24 points
You (1000) beat Player C (900) โ†’ you gain ~8 points

๐Ÿค Doubles: team average

In doubles matches, your team's ELO is averaged before calculating the result. Each player on the winning team gains the same number of points, and each player on the losing team loses the same amount.

๐ŸŽฎ Casual matches don't count

Only Competitive matches affect your ELO rating. Casual matches appear in your match history but don't move the needle on rankings.

โณ Provisional vs Rated

Your rating is Provisional until you have 5 confirmed competitive matches. This means your rating can move more dramatically early on as the system learns your true level.

After 5 matches you become Rated โ€” your rating is considered reliable and appears fully on the leaderboard.

โœ… Confirmation required

ELO only updates after your opponent confirms the match result. If a match is disputed, no rating changes are applied. This keeps the system fair.
